Tourist and Cultural Event with regularity time trials for classic cars produced within 1979
The event commemorates one of the most famous post-war road races – the Coppa della Toscana – a one-day speed race all around the cities and landscapes of Tuscany held from 1949 to 1954.
In 2025, the Re-enactment of the Coppa Toscana will reach its 28th edition.
The Florentine association CAMET (Club Auto e Moto d’Epoca Toscano) has been organizing this event since 1996, driving the participants to ever-changing scenarios, immersed in the nature, history and art of Tuscany, without neglecting the food and wine delicacies of the area.
Among the many vintage car events, the re-enactment of the Coppa Toscana has carved out an important space for itself in the search for ever-new experiences for those who come from many Italian regions and from abroad.
The particular care of research and organization has brought the Coppa Toscana prestigious ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) awards.
The theme of the XXVIII Coppa Toscana is “the mystery of the Etruscans”: the traces of this ancient civilization still the object of research, whose finds testify to the architecture, the refined culture, the lifestyles, the respect for the female gender, the mastery in art.
We will base ourselves in a 4-star hotel with spa in San Gimignano, the city of a hundred towers, called the Manhattan of the Middle Ages, a UNESCO heritage site.
Passing through a hilly landscape of rare beauty we will encounter ancient villages: Certaldo Alto where the house of Boccaccio is located, Casole d’Elsa, a place of choice for artists from all over the world and a destination for cultured and refined tourism, finally Volterra, which we will reach by retracing the route of the “Saline – Volterra” time trial.
In the city of the Etruscan walls, with the two gates still intact, we will visit the important museum and an alabaster workshop, with masters who still create wonderful artifacts
Volterra is a charming city that has inspired writers and directors over time, recent is an episode of the popular Twilight saga, by Stephenie Meyer, an American writer, which takes up the legend of the Volturi, a very powerful dynasty of vampires that for centuries has dominated the darkest nights of the city.
In the surrounding area, the literary memories of the novel by Carlo Cassola, “La ragazza di Bube” released in 1960 and brought to the cinema with the movie directed by Luigi Comencini, starring a young Claudia Cardinale, are intriguing. Right in the historic tavern where some of the events of the story take place, in Molino d’Era, we will conclude the “Coppa”.
The tavern is located at a crossroads, once a refreshment point for the isolated farms in the surrounding countryside and an almost obligatory stop for travelers. Luchino Visconti chose it for the opening scene of the movie ‘Vaghe stelle dell’orsa’, from 1965.
The protagonists, played by Claudia Cardinale and Michael Grieg, stop here before going up to Volterra with their BMW 507 spyder. The place is still in business today, run by the same family who over time has added to the historic ‘contract’ also a hotel and a large restaurant, now known for the gastronomic specialties of Tuscan cuisine. In this environment with many memories and a warm rustic atmosphere, the event will end.
… and many other surprises and emotions, as in the tradition of the Coppa Toscana !
